Friday, September 22, 2006, brought the first rash of potentially severe thunderstorm systems into Colbert County for the Fall season. Early in the day, Severe thunderstorm watches turned to warnings, then to tornado watches, then warnings. Funnel cloud activity was reported throughout the afternoon from the Wright community of Lauderdale County, south to Belgreen in Franklin County. Warnings were issued for counties in northeast Mississippi, counties in southern Tennessee, and most of north Alabama.

The last and final warning issued in Colbert County for the day, was for the cell pictured below as it moved in from Franklin County and like most of the systems of the day, charged through the area quite swiftly. This last storm system of the day also brought the final volley of outdoor, severe storm public warning siren alerts. The photos below were taken at 5:28 p.m. by a cellular phone cam, just moments after the warning sirens were activated.
